Eliel Melon


Dr. Eliel Melon, is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Center of Informatics and Educational Resources of the School of Dental Medicine in the Medical Sciences Campus at the University of Puerto Rico. He holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the College of Engineering and Computing from Nova Southeastern University.  He also holds a Master in Business Administration with a concentration in Technology Management and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computational Mathematics from the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao Campus.  

He has worked in the technology industry for 20 years, holding several positions including Associate Director of IT, Network Administrator, Database Administrator and a Programmer. Dr. Melon’s research interests include Cybersecurity, Social Networks in e-learning systems, social engineering awareness, cyber threat prevention, privacy in Information Systems, Health Informatics, among others.  He has taught several courses that include: Health Information Systems, Analysis, Design and Development of Health Information Systems, Introduction to Computers and Microcomputers applied to Health Sciences.

​He has published several academic papers in different journals like the Online Journal of Applied Knowledge Management and different proceedings like the 10th IASTED International Conference and Advanced Technology in Education.  Also, he has served as a reviewer in several conferences like IEEE SoutheastCon 2017, KM Conference 2018, IEEE SouteastCon 2016, IACIS 2016 and the 33rd Annual Research and Education Forum in the Medical Sciences Campus.
